Thank you for your interest in FastGrass®. These mats are hand-crafted woven construction, and can be used in many interesting and creative ways. We've seen them rigged on boats, blinds, poles, pits, layout boats, mummy binds - you name it. We've used them hard and have been pleased, and pass along our thoughts. Please feel free to drop us a line if you have questions or comments.
In general, the more attachment points the better. Keeping the FastGrass® drawn up tightly against a backing surface will extend their life. The more the FastGrass® is allowed to "flap around", the more likely for the weaving to break. Note that FastGrass® mats can be rolled up with the direction of the leaves. Rolling with the leaves in makes them easier to handle. Give consideration to how wind (trailering or motoring a boat) will effect your FastGrass® attachments. The front of your boat requires a more concentrated attaching to fend off the elements. Vertical seams where FastGrass® mats butt together can be overlapped to improve wind resistance. Latex surgical gloves are handy during installation to minimize chafing your hands, while still allowing good dexterity.

You should decide early whether you want to orient your FastGrass® up (loose leaf ends up) or down. Many feel the leaves should point up, like marsh grass grows. Some prefer to orient the leaves downward, which allows the mats to hang from the finished edge. They work well either way, it is a matter of preference that may be dictated by your particular application. While FastGrass® can be attached in many ways, we've had our best success using plastic "wire ties". These can be threaded throughout the mats and snugged up tightly - and are very durable. These wire ties are available at most hardware or home improvement stores. The longer sizes are much easier to work with. Try to connect the FastGrass® through and across several of the loops. It can be drawn up tight using the layer of woven matting under the leaves, while still allowing the leaves to remain free to look natural and cover the attachment. Any attachment technique should attempt to combine across 2 or 3 loops laterally. This spreads the mat's weight more evenly and reduces the chance of tearing when compared to one "strand" of mat. You can attach to just one strand - just use more attachments per mat. |

FastGrass® can be cut to size, in any direction. The knots hold tight - just cut around them. Bending the mat while cutting through the weaving will help avoid cutting the remaining lengths of the leaves. The mats do vary in size. Before you start attaching identify places which require either smaller or larger mats. As your FastGrass® gets hunted it will "fan out" and take on a bushier, more three dimensional look. FastGrass® will last longer if allowed to dry out after use in water, rain, or snow. It does not absorb water or swell, but will mildew if it remains in contact with moisture. Your FastGrass® will darken slightly from their received condition once exposed to the elements. FastGrass® will hold paint. We've found that vertical lines of spray paint (black, brown, green) add nice contrast and give the mats better "depth". Like any vegetation attached to a blind or boat, these mats are flammable. Please use caution and common sense in your designs and hunts. |
